SENIOR PROM 2016: Dos and Don’ts

By Chanmony Chap

Lowell, MA-  Spring semester is here, and that means prom is already in the air.

Hello Seniors wake up! Prom is one of the few times in your semi-adult life you get to wear an elegant gown or a swift looking tux. So, take advantage of it. This is your moment to shine.

Here are the dos and don’ts for attending the prom in style.

DO look poppin’

Prom is your time to look poppin’ and do it up.

Girls: get your makeup done by a professional– but make sure you do a trial run first. If you’re going to do your hair and makeup yourself, try it out a few times before the actual prom. YouTube/Instagram is a great place to find those tutorials for awesome hair and makeup looks!

Boys: get a fresh cut the day before or even the day of. Try to think about how you want to “wow” the girls whom you probably won’t see again.

DO buy your outfit way in advance

Girls: It’s great to buy a dress in advance so that no other girl will have the same dress. It is important to make sure it fits you perfectly. Boys: make sure you go to the right place to get a perfect suit/tux. So make sure you get it fixed and tailored to your liking! For girls who do not have the opportunity to go out and get a dress, they can get one from C-House where generous ladies have donated their dresses.

DO wear comfy shoes

Girls: You may be reaching for the five inch stilettos, but trust me your feet will thank you if you go with something a little more comfortable.  Three inch should suffice.

Boys: Wear a classy casual shoe. Ya’ll might need a few inches bumped because your girl will be stiltin’ over you in her heals.

DO take pictures!

Girls and Boys: Make sure you have time to get some good pictures with families, friends and teachers.

DON’T show too much skin

Girls: If you’re going to go short with your dress,  be sure it’s not too short! First of all, everyone’s at prom—other parents, teachers—so make sure your dress isn’t too scandalous.  Anyway, you don’t want to be pulling it down the whole night, especially not while you’re dancing.

Boys: Keep that button down shirt on, no one wants to see you drenched in sweat.

DON’T forget

Boys and Girls:  Don’t forget your date’s corsage or boutonniere!  Those are the flowers by the way.   It’s important to order these from a local florist so you can pick them up easily.  Order them ahead of time too.  Oh, and make sure the flower color compliments your date’s outfit.  We don’t want any color mismatch disasters!

DON’t show up late!

Boys and Girls:  If you’re planning to sit with friends or get a good table, don’t show up late.  Despite what some might suggest, you don’t want miss anything!
