The Year is 2017 and the Wii U still has barely sold over a million units. Third-party game developers are hesitant to produce games for the awkward Gamepad. Nintendo loyal fans migrate to other consoles like the Xbox One and the PS4. Nintendo needs a new option to keep up with the competition.

The Nintendo Switch was announced to be Nintendo’s newest home console brand that allows players to play at home or on the go. On January 12th, Director of Nintendo Tatsumi Kimishima presented the Switch featuring it’s innovative “Joy-Con” controllers, updated gamepad, and its ability as a hybrid console. The Nintendo Switch will be $299.99 and be released on March 3rd 2017.

Learning from the Wii U’s mistakes, the Switch features several launch titles. Some of these titles are Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Sonic Mania, Arms, Just Dance 2017 and lastly the long awaited Legend of Zelda: Breath of the

After Nintendo’s Wii U failed to get a good footing in the next-gen consoles, the company needed an answer to compete with other developers. As a family friendly company, Nintendo’s goal is to improve the players’ experience by immersing their players into the gameplay. This is shown through their consoles, games, and most of all their controllers.

The Joy-Cons (Joy-Con L and Joy-Con R) are similar to the Wii Remote and Nunchuck. Their key attributes is their ability to switch off the controller and also be used individually as controllers.

Joy Con L features a button specifically for screenshots. Joy Con R features an NFC reader allowing for Amiibo use, a home button and an infrared sensor that can identify specific motions. Both Joy Cons feature SL and SR buttons within the rail used for connecting the controllers on to the gamepad on, motion gyro control and vibration. The Nintendo Switch can support up to 8 Joy Cons at a time.

With it’s TV Mode, Tabletop Mode, and Handheld Mode. Nintendo plans to create fun for all ages, that is new and can be shared everywhere.
