LHS goes classic, and relives a nostalgic tale. With over 100 kids acting in the school’s musical production of The Wizard of Oz, director Becky Bussiere is ready to put a show on for the community.

The Wizard of Oz is a classic film from 1939 that many are already familiar with. Ms. Bussiere’s goal with the musical is to reignite the nostalgic feeling this movie produces. She also intends to connect all of the school’s groups and activities by getting them involved with the production.

“My goal with Dorothy is to get a very innocent portrayal and Kayla fit that.”

Senior Luidgy Bellmour,  as the Lion, junior William Mailloux as the Tin Man, and senior John Quigley as the Scarecrow. Ms. Bussiere had goals and reasons behind casting these actors but the overall theme was to keep the audience indulged in the classic memories of the past.

Ms. Bussiere goes on to describe the book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, penned by L. Frank Baum, as “fantastically written.”  She also states that there are more differences from the original writing and musical than in the movie. So for some audience members there will be scenes that won’t be recognizable but add intrigue.

The play is being performed on Friday April 28 (4/28), Saturday April 29 (4/29), and Sunday April 30 (4/30). Entrance fees are $10 for students with an I.D. and $15 for regular visitors.
