Activist gathered at Cambridge City Hall to listen Elizabeth Warren addressing on various issues

CAMBRIDGE–  90 Lowell High School students served for those in need in ‘Many Helping Hands’ an event organized during the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, January 15th in the city hall of Cambridge, MA.

This event was organized for anyone who wanted to help and serve make scarves and blankets for homeless people, Valentines day cards for elders and veterans, and sort food, clothing and books to the ones in need.

The arrangements were mainly organized by history teacher Jessica Lander, in an attempt to get students, NHS and ROTC members to participate in this day commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

“Students have the opportunity to learn to get back to their community by volunteering in this event, specially because it all went to the people in the local community,” said LHS teacher Jessica Lander.

Over three thousand people gathered that day, about 600 blankets and scarves were made, 3500 valentines cards were written, 450 bags of food, 1700 toiletries kits, 2500 ER emergency room kits were packed, and about 81 bags of clothes (1500 pounds) were reunited.

“Make the difference is an option, help others is the best decision, a good deed can change a life significantly because our purpose is not only to have a happy life, but to be useful as well,” said Lowell High School student and volunteer for ‘Many helping hands’ Sara Vivas.

Lowell has been without a doubt one of the major supporters in this day of volunteering. While the students help to give back to the less fortunate, they learn the importance of community service and to give out a few hours of their time to serve.
