Ingredients: (That I used at least)
French Vanilla box cake mix
1 large tablespoon of vanilla frosting
1 package of pink/white Market Basket sprinkles
Pink writing gel
Black writing gel
16oz of bright white melting chocolate
Zip-Lock bag (or piping bag)
Toothpicks and/or skewers
To start off, make sure you give yourself THE ENTIRE day to do these for the first time. The recipe I had looked up said 2 hours total for the time but it ended up taking me about 6 hours total.
Follow the cake mix instructions and make the cake. Let the cake cool completely.
While the cake is cooling make the ears, tails, and feet for the decorations. You’ll only need a small amount of the melting chocolate for this. Melt in the microwave using 30 second intervals, stirring between each set of 30 seconds. Poor the melted chocolate into the zip-lock (or piping bag, if you want to use proper materials) and cut a very small hole in the corner. Make small circles and ovals by pouring the chocolate onto wax paper. Throw these into the fridge or freezer to keep them cold.
Take your COMPLETELY COOLED cake and break it into small pieces until the cake is only crumbs. I found that the easiest way to do this is with your (freshly washed and dried) hands.
Add the spoonful of frosting to the crumbs and mix. Once again, I think the easiest way to accomplish this is with your hands. Keep mixing until you can roll any given chunk of crumbs into a ball and have it not fall apart.
Once your balls are rolled, cool them (in the fridge) for at least 25 minutes. Then, stick toothpicks into the cake balls. Melt a big bowl of the chocolate and dip the cake into the chocolate until the entire thing is covered. It will take a minute for the excess chocolate to drip off, you’ll have to be patient. I was tapping a couple of them on the side of the bowl but occasionally that broke the cake balls apart.
Let the chocolate covered cake balls cool in the fridge for 30 minutes or more, then you can add the decorations! I attached the ears/paws/tails by just dipping the tips of them into chocolate and then placing them onto the balls. I got lazy and just dipped the majority of my cake balls into the sprinkles while the chocolate was still warm (seen behind the bunny cake pops in photo). After the decorations cool off, enjoy!
