June COVID-19 Updates

As of May 29th, 2021, Governor Charlie Baker has lifted the state’s mask mandate and the remainder of COVID-19 restrictions in Massachusetts. So what exactly will this look like as we progress into our first summer free from the grip of the deadly virus?

Though the mask mandate has been lifted, The Department of Public Health recently released a mask advisory in accordance with the CDC’s guidelines. (See here) Essentially, individuals who are fully vaccinated no longer have to wear a mask indoors or outdoors, except on public and private transportation and while visiting healthcare facilities. Massachusetts residents who have yet to receive their vaccinations are still advised to wear their masks, especially when in the presence of others who are not vaccinated and in large crowds.

Governor Baker has also given all industries the green light to open to full capacity, whether indoors or outdoors. Therefore, there is now no need for precautions such as social distancing. While many have embraced the news, other professionals may still feel weary and continue to enforce mask mandates and social distancing. So be sure to familiarize yourself with the regulations of the businesses, stores, theme parks, and institutions you plan on visiting this summer!

For many, the Governor’s update signifies the beginning of the end of COVID’s brutal reign. About 57% of all Massachusettsans have been fully vaccinated! We are drawing nearer to the normalcy that we have all desperately longed for. Soon the struggles of the past year will be no more than memories of our past.

Congratulations to all the students at LHS on the completion of this crazy school year! We are in the home stretch, so hang in there! Whether you were fully remote or returned to campus at some point this year, we have all overcome great odds, and all have something to be proud of!
