strawberry girl

Erin Shetler

Her eyes are a mid shade of blue-gray

They bring with them the scene of the ocean on a foggy day

The fog blocks most of the scenery

But through it

You can make out the blue waves

As they crash onto the shore

Then retreat again

Back into the fog

You could watch the fog all-day

It is not mysterious

But nevertheless

It is fascinating and cool

She reminds me of a summer strawberry

Her face is freckled

With a million little seeds

As many dots as there are stars in the sky

I’ve tried to count before

But I get distracted by her foggy-ocean eyes

Or her contagious smile

Or some joke that she cracks

She is bright and energetic

and friendly to everybody

Most importantly

She as sweet as a summer strawberry
