Lowell, MA- “A person should not be judged by the outside but instead known by the inside,” said a fascinating girl named Willow Kelley.
Kelley, an LHS student, does not feel her sexuality is accurately represented.
The 15 year-old sophomore, born and raised in this city, exhibits a thoughtfulness, maturity and sincerity not often seen among teens.
“It’s not fair,” she said about traditional gender labels of society.
She is part of the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender community (LGBT) which is a coalition of people who consider themselves outside the traditional gender role of society.
The LGBT club at LHS is called Rainbow Connection.
She started being more open about her sexuality in high school.
She doesn’t see herself as a “teacher” but more of just an activist because she represents a part of the LGBT community that is hardly known.
“I’m pansexual,” said Willow who publicly discusses her gender identity with ease. “That’s when a person is not attracted by a person outside…it just matters what’s on the inside’’.
While she relates with the journey of other LGBT members, Willow does not feel completely at home with the group.
There are some things not represented in the LGBT community. She kindly explains, “For example, what I am.”
